Blubuntu Part II

blubuntu_logo.pngEarlier this year, back in the dog days of summer, I wrote a post about Blubuntu, or how to make your Ubuntu desktop look blue. To my surprise, it received heavy traffic, and accolades from many around the net.

As a matter of fact, my Blubuntu post is number one on Google for the the search keyword Blubuntu. It is also still my most infamous post, and still receives more traffic than any other post that I have ever written. Perhaps this means that there are many thousands, if not millions of people who feel the same way about brown on the desktop as I do. Like I always say, to each his own. Moving on…

A little while back, I freaked you all out with a hoax about Ubuntu. Like many of the other ‘off the wall‘ posts that I write on my blog, I wrote this for the ‘off the wall‘ responses. You say I have a sick mind? Well, perhaps. Anyway, in a explanatory post, I made the promise that I was going to publish an new and updated post about Blubuntu. Wait no further folks.

The last time I wrote about this subject, it was basically a compilation of themes that I had found on the Internet, or more specifically, gnome-look.org.

I am proud to say that this time, I have submitted my own artwork to Gnome Look, and the Ubuntu Artwork Wiki.

As I told teen and ubuntonista, I did not submit anything before from my last article about Blubuntu, simply because the artwork was not my own work. However, this time, the artwork was done by yours truly.

Here are my contributions to Blubuntu:

You can download all three of these files directly from the following links:

There is also another good hack to make the Usplash blue, as opposed to the default brown. This is on the Ubuntu forums site.

Since I have been asked for the source of the Blubuntu splash, here is the modified svgz.

That is all for now. Enjoy it to your heart’s content.

The download link for the Blubuntu Splash has somehow been replaced with a link to a picture of it.

John, this is not true. This is how the link has always been. Do you visit Gnome-Look very often? Most of the splashes link exactly like mine. It is not tarred in a tarball, because it is only one small file.

I thank you an appreciate your taking the time to (try to) download this.

Here is what to do, for you and all who might have been confused as to how to do this. I apologize for not being specific enough to begin with.

Click on the download link, which will display the photo called 46194-blubuntu_splash.png, as you will see in your address bar. Right click on the image itself, and select save image as. When the dialog box comes up, you can save it to whatever you want, but to make it easy, type:

    blubuntu_splash.png

From there you will probably be best off downloading and installing the splash screen manager.

    sudo apt-get install gnome-splashscreen-manager

Then open up in System–>Preferences–>Splash Screen, and add it to your splashes. It’s that simple. I’m sorry that you got confused, but just to clear things up, no links have changed, or been mysteriously replaced.

Since the original splash SVG is GPL and you modified it to create the Blubuntu splash PNG, please post your modified SVG. Thanks.
